Speak Out

Speak out ... Follow Israel's lead

07-23-2006

My prayer is that Israel will resist any advice from the United States as it fights to rid the world of Hezbollah and Hamas terrorists. America has convinced Israel that terrorists and Islamic militants can reason, have a thread of sanity, be satisfied with rational conclusions and abide by treaties, agreements, international law, etc.

I trust Israel has now seen the light and will pursue Hezbollah, Hamas, and if necessary, Syria and Iran, with such a damaging blow that even brainless Islamic radicals will get the message.

American officials are making statements such as, “We are urging Israel to use restraint,” “I will ask Israel to limit their attack,” and other senseless comments. If another nation crossed our borders, killed our soldiers, took hostages and bombarded civilians with rockets, would we not bring a devastating blow to that nation? Would we be receptive to some other country asking us to “use restraint.”

I am ashamed that our decision-makers have not had the courage to take action against Syria and Iran. With regard to America's fight against terrorism, President Bush warned other nations, “You are either with us or against us.” American and coalition warriors are dying every day as a result of money, materiel, weapons and ammunition being provided by Syria, Iran and others to insurgents in Iraq. These countries are clearly against us, so what do we do? Nothing.

At what point will America have had enough and follow Israel's example?

Confront terrorism

Having learned from the past the futility of attempted negotiations with Mideast militant organizations, free nations should finally welcome the latest conflict initiated by Hamas and Hezbollah as an opportunity to confront international terrorism on all fronts, especially Syria and Iran.

Hopefully, there will be a day when free nations will look back and thank God/Allah/et al that coalition forces attacking Iraq further uncovered the true terrorist threat: leadership, organization, magnitude, weaponry, financing and weapon procurement networks.

Most sincere thanks will also be offered up for the opportunity that the present Mideast crisis presented to free nations to strategically crush terrorism for eternity.

Marriage is church matter

As proclaimed in the First Amendment, government shall “make no law respecting the establishment of religion.” It should leave holy matrimony to religious organizations and restrict its regulation of relationships between people to the contract responsibilities that are set forth in the Constitution. Thus, it should provide for the legal entry of consenting adults into civil unions.

If gays, lesbians and others desire to extend a civil union into sacramental marriage, they can use their religious freedom to find a body of faith that will sanctify their contractual relationship. If they cannot find one, they are free to start their own religion.

Rescue from harm's way

Rescue (removal) of U.S. citizens from harm's way in Lebanon, as well as any other hazardous location, foreign or domestic, should rightfully be a responsibility of the U.S. government and should be at no direct personal cost to those rescued.

However, once removed from harm's way, all further expenses should be, as would normally be expected under circumstances of no harmful duress, personally borne by those rescued.
