THE TOP STORY: The money trail
By Chris Graham/AFP  The news from Monday that former Prince William county attorney Sharon Pandak had decided to drop out of the Democratic Party attorney-general race was a shock to many in the world of Virginia politics - if only for the motivation that Pandak cited for the move. Pandak told The Augusta Free Press that a consultant had indicated to her that she would need to raise between $1.3 million ...

INSIDE ... From whom the I-81 tolls
By Chris Graham/AFP  And you thought it was Star Solutions that was pushing the idea of paying for possible improvements to Interstate 81 in Western Virginia through the assessment of tolls on drivers all by its lonesome. It was actually the Virginia Department of Transportation that took the toll ball and ran with it early last year ...

IN FOCUS: A straight shot to the hospital
By Chris Graham/AFP  It can take a half-hour for Pegasus or Aircare Medevac to reach locations in Augusta and Rockingham counties where help is needed to transport a stroke or heart-attack or car-accident victim to the hospital. That doesn't leave much turnaround time considering that the goal in the medical community is to have patients experiencing those kinds of traumas ...

EYE ON THE VALLEY: The cycle of life
By Chris Graham/AFP  Janet Lembke learned one last lesson from her mother. "The lesson that I took with me from the experience was that there are things that we can do for ourselves so that we can stay in charge of end-of-life issues while we still have our wits about us, and that we have to take care of them while we can," said Lembke, the Staunton-based author of The Quality of Life: Living Well, Dying Well.

THE NOTEBOOK: Man in custody in connection with Dec. 13 robbery
By Chris Graham/AFP  A Staunton man was arrested on Wednesday and charged with robbery in connection with an incident that was reported on Dec. 13. John James Roe, 24, of 212 Edgewood Road, was charged with the robbery of a Springhill Road apartment resident who was reportedly beaten with a pool stick before his cell phone and prescription Oxycontin were taken.

THE AGENDA: Augusta County School Board
By Chris Graham/AFP  The Augusta County School Board will meet tonight at 6:30 p.m. at the Woodrow Wilson Rehabilitation Center for a dinner meeting with state legislators from across the Shenandoah Valley. At 9 p.m., the board will convene for a regular public meeting. The agenda for that meeting includes ...

NOTES FROM THE PRESS: Politics notebook
By Chris Graham/AFP  Steve Haner was not the campaign manager for Republican Party gubernatorial candidate Mark Earley in 2001 - as had been reported in Steven Sisson's Blue Dog Tales column on Wednesday. Earley’s campaign manager was Quentin Kendall and his main consultant was Anne Kincaid.

AROUND TOWN: Busy time at the food bank
By Chris Graham/AFP  Most places would be happy to report that they had more customers in a particular period than ever before. But for the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank Network, it's not necessarily the best news to be sharing as the calendar counts down to the holidays. The Verona-based food-bank network served more than 60,000 people in November ...

The enemy-allied media

As many have predicted, the terrorist forces, even with severely limited conventional weaponry, are gaining success in the war in Iraq by the employment of the same strategic forces that the North Vietnamese forces employed in defeating U.S. forces in Vietnam.

As with the North Vietnamese forces, the terrorist forces have perfected the use of ICBMs (intercontinental BS missiles); missiles of fear and terrorism with which the enemy-allied U.S. national media forces bombard our citizenry day and night with a devastation equal to deadly intercontinental ballistic missiles.

Unlike when the United States forces lost the battle for South Vietnam to the North Vietnam Communist forces, they lost the war, and then they came home; if the United States forces lose this battle against worldwide terrorism, they will come home, and then lose the war.

Sidebar: As the war, eventually having moved to our homefront, comes to a devastating end, the victorious terrorist forces will surely display some form of gratitude to the U.S.-based enemy-allied U.S. national media force. I would guess that in gratitude for having employed the only weapon ICBM (intercontinental BS missile) capable of defeating the United States, the U.S.-based enemy-allied U.S. national media force would enjoy the courtesy of being the last U.S. citizens to be beheaded.
