Two Huntsville traffic problems could be solved by the following suggestions.
The first refers to the gridlock conditions on the west-bound Airport Road lane that turns onto the north-bound Parkway access street. If two lanes were allowed to turn north by elimination or redesign of the turning restriction, much congestion could be eliminated.
The second problem is just caused by heavy traffic on the Parkway between Martin Road and Oakwood Avenue and could be alleviated by use of full three lanes of traffic. The bridges can accommodate three lanes now except for use of the third lanes as on and off ramps.
It appears that these lanes could be extended between bridges by use of the existing shoulder property. This would require use of on and off ramps between alternate streets, but likely an affordable compromise. JOHN L. SWEENEY Huntsville
Lottery ticket purchases are a state contribution
The people who play any lottery are gambling; they are betting that they will win. I recently read that one person won the state of Florida lottery which paid out $57 million dollars.
The number of people who played that lottery is not known to me, but it was a number sufficient to provide the $57 million paid to the winner, plus the untold millions taken in by the state as profit after deducting the cost of operating the lottery.
Many people who would not bet with one other person on the outcome of a sporting event will bet they will win a lottery. They will do so despite the fact the odds of their winning are almost equal to those of a person who has never purchased a lottery ticket.
Regardless of the number of lottery tickets an individual may buy, or the amount of money paid, the expenditure may appropriately be called a contribution. ARNOLD A. PUCKETT SR. Huntsville
Who needs psychobabble?
As if on cue, the ''liberamedia have begun to psychoanalyze away, ad nauseam, Bill Clintons irresponsible and downright sordid behavior in an effort to corroborate Hillarys in-depth ''Clintonalyses to which the world was recently fed.
Our nations psycho-intelligensia entered from the wings from which they are forever close at hand and were marched before the cameras, one by one, to educate (incomprehensibly) the masses as to the whys and wherefore for Clintons maternally-induced abhorrent behavior, taking pains to suggest that any blame lay far from the subject.
Granted, the psychoanalytical ploy is a masterful one, what with the introduction of these brilliant minds, but really, wouldnt Jerry Springer be the authority of eminence in this matter? ARMOND ''SI SIMMONS Pell City, Ala.
'Dodge Draft will honor Clinton . . .?
Its rumored that Chrysler Corp. will be coming out with a new car in honor of Bill Clinton. It will be called the ''Dodge Draft. Its understood it will commence production next year in Vietnam. It only comes in yellow. D.M. TURIS Huntsville
Hillary Clinton isnt being responsible
So now the blame for President Clintons philandering is being squarely placed on his deceased mother and grandmother, who, according to Hillary Clinton, fought for his affections when he was at a young and impressionable age. Being dead, they obviously cannot refute this.
Once again, personal responsibility is being evaded. Give me a break. And the person who believes this is in the running to be a senator of our great country? God help us all. JIM JENSEN Grant
More on the millennium
It has been both interesting and amusing to read the many letters about the millennium. May I suggest that we celebrate the end of this millennium and all the good things that have been accomplished in it, in the year 2000. Then celebrate the beginning of the new millennium in 2001.
Dont know, but maybe it will settle the celebrating factor for both camps. And just think, we are not only going to have a new millennium sale, but also an end of millennium sale, etc., etc. SONJA HODGE Madison
