The ‘Bonita-Dixie Line’
To the editor:
I
can’t believe that I’m restricted from purchasing my state
flag of Mississippi at Bonita Lakes Mall. My “papers” are all
in order.
It’s sad to think that from that beautiful
knoll upon which the mall today enjoys its commanding
presence, long ago could be seen the torching to the ground of
the city of Meridian.
True, for a period thereafter,
carpetbaggers probably restricted us from buying our state
flag. But things got better. Or did they? Have the
carpetbaggers returned?
Well, I for one, will never
shop again above the “Bonita-Dixon Line.”

Fair for one, fair for
all
To the editor:
First of all, I agree
with Ms. Dopke who wrote a letter last week about what has
happened at the Bonita Lakes Mall regarding Dixie Outfitters.
Now I will just quit shopping in any store that sells anything
with Martin Luther King, etc.
We all have tried so hard
to come together as a nation of one, but some people will just
not let it go. So what is fair for one is fair for
all.

‘Gutless
wonders’
To the editor:
On the subject of Dixie
Outfitters I agree with Kathy Dopke on everything she says
other than the fact that we have “gutless wonders” running the
mall. We have “gutless wonders” running our country from local
government right on up to the White House.
No one cares
about anything but votes. They don’t care who they have to
step on as long as they say what they need to say to get
votes. It is my opinion that NAACP should be changed to NAABP
because they don’t stand for any people of color except
black.
I don’t own slaves, my daddy didn’t own slaves,
his daddy didn’t own slaves nor did his daddy own slaves. I
was raised with black children and never saw anything in them
except friends.
When I joined the Army in 1971 I was
taught that there was only one color and that was green. I
think the only people who are keeping this slave thing alive
are the people who won’t get off their rears and do something
for themselves.
I have always wondered why black people
don’t celebrate Abe Lincoln’s birthday. Is it because he was
white or they just don’t know that he was the one to set
slaves free.
All this happened before any of us were
born. It was a bad time for blacks and I hate it happened. But
I wasn’t there and neither were most of you — so stop blaming
someone else for something that they didn’t do.
Now
let’s see if The Meridian Star is in that “gutless wonder”
crowd and won’t print this letter. This is my opinion and only
my opinion.

Keeping
watch over Merrehope
To the editor:
The call
came in at 11:30 p.m. The McKee’s were soundly sleeping. The
message was urgent: “The fire alarm has gone off at Merrehope.
The fire trucks are on their way. Please come to Merrehope as
soon as possible.”
We arrived to a startling sight.
Three large fire trucks with red lights blazing along with the
rescue truck sitting in the Merrehope parking lot and also out
on the street. The neighbors had congregated out on the front
walk with concerned interest of the seriousness of this fire
call.
The firefighters were dressed for their business
of saving Merrehope; all suited up in their serious gear of
combating a fire, this swarm of courageous young men all
intent on doing battle for our oldest historic
treasure.
Thankfully, it was a false alarm. My husband
and I, along with our Merrehope tenant Joe Norwood, were
comforted by the swift and professional manner in which the
Meridian firefighters conducted themselves. One young man
assured me, “Mrs. McKee, we are not going to let anything
happen to Merrehope. We can be here in two minutes and we will
continue to keep a watch over the house.”
It occurred
to me that the firefighter’s statement — “keeping a watch
over the house” is exactly the same thing that our entire
community has done during the year of 2002. I believe since
our “Save Merrehope for Me” campaign began in early summer our
community has shared with this vigilant watch of concern.
Alert with the knowledge that a watch is needed to support and
protect these two wonderful historic homes (the only historic
homes on tour in Meridian).
Thank you, community. You
have let us know that you do care. Please continue to care. As
we have stated several times during 2002, our community
working together will benefit all. We are all one.

Kudos to Jimmy Pigford
To the editor,
I
would like to take time out to give thanks and appreciation to
Jimmy Pigford, director of the Meridian Little Theatre, for
giving kids from Meridian Public Schools and Lauderdale County
Schools the opportunity to be able to enjoy the luxury of a $2
play/musical (Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs) that they
otherwise probably wouldn’t have ever had the chance to see.
The children very much enjoyed it.
What I really just
want to say is thanks.

Distorting God’s word
To the
editor:
Some of you may have read a letter I sent to the
editor previously. It was concerning the new versions versus the
King James Version of the Bible. I hope you have prayerfully
considered the information I shared with you.
I am not a
highly educated person. I graduated from Meridian High in 1964,
married and had two children. I really never planned on more
education. My husband is now a pastor and I have been privileged to
teach young people throughout the past 26 years. I feel that this is
a great responsibility and will never willfully mislead them. I know
I will answer to God for what I have done with the opportunities He
has given me.
That is why I can’t sit idly by and see so many
be deceived by Satan and his plan to destroy God’s word. We know
throughout history he has attempted to do this. But because
Christians have been willing to stand up and even give their lives
so that I can have God’s word in my hands today, Satan has not
succeeded.
But now he is trying a new approach. He is
corrupting God’s word in such a way that so many have unknowingly
accepted it and have not even asked why.
I’d like to share
just a few examples of the way Satan used the New Greek Text by
Westcott and Hort to distort God’s word.
We are familiar with
the account of Shadrack, Meshack and Abednego in Daniel 3:13-30
being thrown into the fiery furnace. The king said, “Did not we cast
three men bound into the fire ... Lo, I see four men loose walking
in the midst of the fire ... .”
Have not sermons and songs
for ages been written telling us it was Jesus himself in the fire
with them (verse 25)? But the new versions say (verse 25) and the
fourth looks like a son of the gods..
We all know it is not
hard to enter into the kingdom of God. John 3:16 gives us the way
... “whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have
everlasting life.” But if you read Mark 10:24 in the New
International Version ... Children how hard it is to enter the
kingdom of God ... you get a different view. We all know this verse
is talking about how hard it is for them to trust in riches to enter
into the kingdom of God, if we have God’s true word.
There
are many more examples I could give but just to let you know that
the new versions have taken out over 64,000 words and 18 whole
verses should make us ask questions. But when I found the NIV took
out at least 650 of Jesus’ own words, I knew it had been
corrupted.
I will conclude this letter by quoting from Madam
Blavatsky, know as the Mother of the New Age, from her book, Holy
Satan. “That which for nearly 1,500 years was imposed on Christendom
as a book, of which every word was written under the direct
supervision of the Holy Ghost, of which not one syllable nor comma
could be changed without sacrilege, is now being retranslated,
revised and corrected and clipped of whole verse, in some cases of
entire chapters (Westcott and Hort) ... And as soon as the new
edition is out, its doctors (Westcott and Hort) would have us accept
it as a new ‘revelation’ of the nineteenth century ... and King
James translators have made such a jumble of it that no one but a
kabalist can restore the Bible to its original form.
Truly,
unless we read the Old Testament Kabalistically and comprehend the
hidden meaning thereof, there is little we can learn from it. No one
has the right to enforce upon so-called ‘Christians’ that the author
of it was the ‘Holy Ghost’ (H.P. Blavatsky, Isis Unveiled, vol. 2
page 125, 252, 362 and 471)
(Kabala is popularly understood
as being Jewish mysticism).
Which Bible can we trust? The
choice is yours.
