In a recent Letter to the Editor, The Clarion Ledger, a writer states, "The NAACP still thinks it can overrule the will of the people of Mississippi!"
Sadly, the NAACP can and will eventually overrule the will of the people of Mississippi!" Kweisi Mfume, President & CEO of the NAACP is so confident that his will shall prevail that he didn't even feel a need to boycott the state. He is satisfied that the Mississippi political leadership, university heads, business leaders and media will continue to fold to the "Slavery Card", the foundation of that ominous "movement" that most white politicians, white university heads and white media fear and dare not resist.
Herein lies the irony -- the politico masters of the black political pawns of old have now become the white political pawns of their black masters.
Regrettably, since the abolition of slavery, the political powers that be, instead of rightfully mainstreaming black Americans into the work force, used them as political pawns, catered to and maneuvered through vote-getting legislation of incentive-destroying "handout" monetary subsistence, thus a multitude of firmly entrenched election-inspired welfare programs became a way of life never intended. This way of life today is represented, protected and continues to flourish through the efforts of a most powerful, demanding and threatening PAC of clever opportunists, a la Jesse Jackson/Al Sharpton/Kweisi Mfume who evolved from the welfare chaos. Finding it easier each day to demand and receive whatever of politicians at all levels and the kowtowing of the media to their each and every whim has encouraged further demands, the latest being their assault on all things "Confederate" to include our Mississippi flag and, yes, the "Pledge of Allegiance" to our United States flag.
Political pawnage has come full circle, the "Slavery Card" has been dealt, the dealer is on a roll and the will of the people of Mississippi is wanting.
