Gary Jackson's premise ("President's policy is sound," June 1) that President Bush's policy of attacking terrorists on their homefront will allow for better schools, good-paying jobs, better health care and much more,  since terrorism is today's greatest threat to these cherished standards of living is right on target.

Baron Bustin, from "on the scene", Abqaiq, Saudi Arabia,  opines ("Writer's premise is 'laughable'", June 5) that "by unilaterally invading Iraq on a lie and giving Ariel Sharon full encouragement to destroy what's left of the Palestinian people, George W. Bush has single-handedly shredded any hope of cooperation on the war on terror with the entire Arab world".  He further states, "If your perspective is from Poplarville, I can guarantee it does not consider the full vulnerability you and I face".

Baron's "on the scene" perspective reminds us that at times one may be "unable to see the forest "on the scene" for the trees "on the scene"".

I'd tend to go with a perspective from a "Poplarville" - or from a "Crawford".
